Why Harry Redknapp scores our commitment goals

Harry Redknapp (footballer), was crowned the “King of the Jungle” on “I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here” at the end of last year. Along with stealing the Jungle Crown, he stole the hearts of millions of people across the nation because of his 54-year strong relationship with wife, Sandra. With a successful career and a successful marriage, Harry Redknapp scores our commitment goals. Here’s what we can learn from Harry.

His marriage has stood the test of time

54 years ago, when they were both just 17, Harry met Sandra in a local pub. Three years later, they tied the knot, and from then on they’ve shared a long and fulfilling marriage. Sandra says the secret to their long marriage is remaining “patient and caring.” Apparently, In 50 years of marriage, they’ve never had a single argument. Harry compares marrying Sandra to “winning the lottery” and says she’s “the only friend I need.” I’m not crying, you are.

Why marriage is in vogue (or is it?)

We want to get married – but how young is too young?

He’s mastered the art of balancing family and career

Soon after tying the knot, Sandra’s twin sister, Patricia, married Harry’s good friend and teammate, Frank Lampard Snr. Of course, Harry’s son, Jamie, and Frank Snr’s son, Frank Jnr, both went on to become successful football players. Harry and Sandra work together as well – they run a charity and property development business. It’s clear that Harry’s family and his career are very closely knit – making his commitment to both all the more worthwhile.

He’s lived and breathed football for over 50 years

Starting out as a midfielder for Tottenham Hotspurs’ youth team when he was 15 years old, Harry Redknapp has played and managed some of the most prestigious professional football teams in the country during his career, from West Ham to Spurs. From a young age, he has committed to a career in an incredibly rewarding, but gruelling, industry.

Sometimes, we are made to feel we have to commit all our energy to either our career, or our partner. Harry Redknapp is a prime example that you shouldn’t have to choose, and commitment to both a successful career and strong relationship is possible.
